If you send out accessible craft kits, you can absolutely add them to KLAS to track availability and circulation!
A few things to think about:
General instructions for adding a new Catalog title are available, but I encourage you to reach out to Customer Support for assistance setting up a new Medium if desired, and for any help you may need in understanding your options and getting the Title record set up.
For anyone already tracking craft kits or similar items in KLAS, how have you chosen to set them up?
A few things to think about:
- Do you want to track individual components (the way you would track volumes of a braille title), or only the full kit?
- Do you want the kit to be its own Medium to keep it in a separate bucket for statistics, and to count against a separate cutoff? Or do you want to put it under whatever medium the instructions are in, such as Braille or Large Print?
- Do you want it to be Consumable (the kit is mailed out and not expected to be returned), or Tracked (checked in for re-use by someone else, potentially with supplies / ingredients refreshed)?
- Do you want to enforce any particular circulation policies (such as only one kit Out at a time)?

Hi Katy! This is very intriguing as I am building an Accessible Game collection and would like to apply the principles you cover here. I would like to be able to limit it to our local area, a few cities. We would not mail them. Can that parameter be added in? Thanks!

That's a bit of a tricky one! I think what we could do for these is set them up as a unique Medium, and set is so that Reserves are not Assigned automatically.
That would allow you to review any Reserves before they get Assigned to make sure that the requester is in the local area. If so, you could Assign the item to "hold" it for them until pick-up.
