PIMMS FAQ - Transfers

PIMMS FAQ - Transfers was created by nancy
- PIMMS will only transmit the birth year, so the receiving library will need to update that from your paper files.
- If equipment is being returned prior to the patron being transferred, be sure to check it in first.
- If the patron is taking their equipment to another state, you'll need to first transfer the patron, then use KLAS to indicate the machine is transferred.
- Transfers from/to KLAS libraries will include all the HasHads, Requests and other things you've come to expect
- Transferring to a non-KLAS library can go through PIMMS, but the receiving library will not get any of the electronic information - i.e., PIMMS knows the patron is transferred, but the receiving library still needs the hard copy report to be able to enter the information. Use the Patron Information Report to get this
(we expect this to change in the future, but this is the status to date).

More news from the world of transfers.
As of November 1, 2016, the old CMLS processing was turned off. Libraries that weren't already on PIMMS are now forced to manually enter their transactions into the PIMMS online interface. Since all KLAS libraries are on PIMMS, what does this mean to you?
KLAS had been checking with PIMMS to see which libraries should be listed as "Transfer through PIMMS". As of November 1 - ALL libraries are showing this, regardless of their true status. KLAS has no way to differentiate those libraries who aren't on PIMMS from those that are.
For now and the immediate future, if you are transferring a patron to Iowa, Texas, and any library using CUL, such as either Pennsylvania library, you will need to print the Patron Information Report to provide these libraries with the information about their new patrons.
