Serials Module- longer issue name fields was created by maureen
Hello KLAS friends,
I was hoping the issue name fields in the serials module could be longer. The months are at the end of a uniform titles, and finding a back issue is very tedious and mistakes can easily happen.
For example, we recently tried to order back issues of Kiplinger's Retirement Report, and it is absolutely impossible to select by name. You need to count backwards and hope for the best. If you aren't exactly sure how the months are set up, you'd also need to check in BARD.
I've attached screenshots of the recent search.
Thank you for your consideration!

For the Serials Requests tab, our plan is to switch the combo-box for a Lookup Field (which would be able to handle the longer issue names and would spare you from having to scroll through years of Issues). The question is: how much of a priority is this fix? How often do patrons request back issues, or does this otherwise cause problems?
Please weigh in if this is an occasional nuisance or a frequent headache! It's something we want to fix, but we need to know where to rank it in development's to-do list.
P.S. You'll find the order of the available Issues on the serial's Issues tab--no need to go to BARD. This tab does (or at least SHOULD) display the full issue name even when they're long, and it's the exact list in the exact order as you'll see on the Requests tab drop-down list.

For NC1A it's a nuisance.
We use a 'workaround' of exporting the list of serials so we can read the full names and find how far down to count to get the one we want.

In MA1A this is an occasional nuisance, but it has been a nuisance when it happens for sure, maybe once a month. I appreciate the topic coming up though, as the work arounds are helpful in the meantime.
