Load BARD stats... the smart way

If you're moving towards a Duplication service model, loading your BARD stats is about to get even more important. Otherwise, patrons who both receive cartridges and download their own books are likely to receive duplicate titles by mail that they've already downloaded.

The downside to loading BARD statistics is that it can tie up your workstation - possibly for quite a while if you have a lot of active BARD patrons, or even just a lot of errors. Fortunately, there's a way to bypass this!

If you haven't been running your BARD stats using the Batch Manager, give it a try!
  1. In the Load BARD Circulations tool, select the statistics file as usual
  2. Set the Run Option to "Load via Batch Manager"
  3. Enter your email address
  4. If desired, enter a date and time when KLAS won't be very busy (like when everyone is heading home for the day, during lunch, or before you get started in the morning)
  5. Begin Load

You will then be able to carry on using KLAS as usual, while the Batch Manager loads the statistics "behind the scenes" for you (either right away, or at the scheduled time). When it's finished, it'll email the results to you.

Need some help with the error file? Have a look back at the BARD Load Errors forum post from last year.

For self-hosted sites, where can we save the file so the Batch Manager can find it to load into KLAS?

You should be able to save the file anywhere on your local drive, such as the desktop or a documents folder. On the Load BARD Circulations screen, use the browse button to select the file--this information will be sent on to the Batch manager to tell it where to find the file.

I get an error message when I try this. I've attached a screen shot of the exact error.

Good morning!

So is there anyway we can get the BARD errors for serials to be recognized in KLAS? We know that books just have to be added, but we seem to have magazines but they are still not importing and seen as an error.

We do have the magazines in KLAS, but it looks like the ID's don't match. An example would be the Oprah Magazine, we have 2 versions in KLAS, OPR1, for braille, and another that says OPR4,for BARD. But in the error list the incoming magazine's title is set to OPR3, is this what might be causing the issue?

Thanks!

Hello!

Yes, we can help you get the serial records in KLAS and/or the statistics file fixed so the serials can load correctly. B) It does sound like OPR3 vs OPR4 is the problem, but please go ahead and email with a list of the magazines errors you are getting, and attach the original stats file (rather than the error file) in case we need to make a fix on that side.
