It's almost time... after years of entering only five digits for your book numbers, NLS is nearly ready to roll over to DB100000. Wow!

Good news: this is not a Y2k situation. KLAS has always been capable of handling six-digit book numbers. In fact, that's why you've been entering them as DB0 all this time.

However, there will still likely be a few hiccups, and a lot of old habits, as you start entering those "DB1"s. Check out the latest Key Notes blog post for details, and be sure to let us know here if you spot anything else to adjust, test, or watch out for when those six-digit book numbers start coming in!

Looking through this at our library and on your screenshot, I'm noticing a lack of DBC000000,DBC99999. That makes me think it's something I should add to make those locally duplicated titles more readily accessible to our patrons. Is it as simple as plugging those DBC numbers into the KLAS ID Range box?

Good catch! It's pretty much that simple; you'll also want to include the priority (the number at the beginning of each line) and define the media (DB).

So it'd be "1,DB,DBC,DBC000000,DBC999999"
Basically, make the DBC line match your range for the KS titles, and you'll be all set B)

Or, if you want to make sure newer DBCs go first, you could do:
  • 1,DB,DBC,DBC010000,DBC999999
  • 2,DB,DBC,DBC000000,DBC009999
  • (or whatever ranges make sense based on how many DBCs are out there)
Probably just one line for all DBCs is just fine, but hopefully that helps make sense of how it works.

    It's here!

NLS pushed one Title way ahead of sequence in order to put a test DB100000 out there. "Monster Hunters Guardian" is included in November NEW File 2 ( uploaded 11/20/2019 for self-hosted libraries, and included in the next MARC load for Keystone-hosted).

We've tested it here, but please check that it loaded correctly into your database. If you do run into any problems, please let us know!

The latest set of MARC records (which I will be posting soon) included several DB1s! Even apart from the test title, these are now rolling in.

If you need any help updating settings or have any questions, let us know!

One more thing we've thought to check: If you include a Book Search Starting Point or a KLAS ID - Begins of "DB0" in your saved book search settings, make sure to update those to just "DB," so that both DB0 and DB1 results will be returned.
